Did you know that in 2004 Valve launched Half-Life 2 ? And did you know that Episode 1 followed two years later and Episode 2 a year after that? Did you know it’s now been ten years and besides a mass of rumours, bad jokes and, Gordon Freeman’s elusive third Half-Life outing – be that Half-Life 3 or HL2: Episode 3 – is still Not A Thing?I’m sure you did. Let me now ask you this: do you know about Half-Life 2’s modding scene – a community which has been producing consistently brilliant tweaks and tinkerings to Freeman’s Combine-killing shooter for over a decade? Built from Valve’s Source Engine, the following list is comprised of single and multiplayer mods for the Seattle-based dev’s seminal and ever-enduring FPS – some of which are set in Freeman-familiar worlds, others which take on completely new looks entirely.I know it’s hard to swallow, but Half-Life 3 might never happen. Play these mods instead.By CideGet a Life was one of the first Half-Life 2 mods I ever played, and I instantly loved how different it was from its source material.
Playing as Alexander Zemlinsky, you assume control of a vulnerable subway technician suffering from leukaemia and are tasked with taking on an unscrupulous agency and waves of otherworldly beings. As an everyday civilian, Zemlinsky can barely handle the mod’s 13-weapon arsenal and afflictions such as bleeding, dizziness, shaking while aiming, and limping make combating its 60+ enemy types across its 24 maps less than straightforward. Add that to the mod’s limb damage system and you’ve got your work cut out for you. Upgradable weapons and drugs that trigger a special bullet-time mode work in your favour across Get a Life’s ten hour or so runtime.By Team GoldenEye: SourceDesigned to reimagine the Nintendo 64’s wonderful GoldenEye FPS from 1997, GoldenEye Source is a fan-made Half-Life 2 total conversion mod with one goal in mind: “To bring the memories and experiences from the original GoldenEye64 back to life using Source technology.”It’s been around for almost 12 years and has been consistently updated along the way – having launched its version 5.0 last year.
Classic maps such as the Bunker and the Dam return, however while its team promise to maintain the “original feel” of the game now two some decades old, naturally it’s been brought up to speed with ten multiplayer game modes, 25 maps in total and all 28 weapons from the original. Here’s its latest trailer. By Studio Radi-8Set in a fictionalised cyberpunk Tokyo some 30 years into the future, Neotokyo is best described as a class-leaning Counter-Strike mixed with the Japanese fantasy/sci-fi manga series Ghost in the Shell. Government corruption is said to have turn the Japanese capital as we once knew it into a dystopian nightmare where war rages between the military sect Jinrai and the National Security Force. In practice this means loads of twitch shooting and relentless warring across Team Deathmatch and Capture the Ghost – the latter of which is portrayed by a female robot and is, as you probably expect, this mod’s version of capture the flag.Once housed on ModDB, Neotokyo now exists on Steam and can be downloaded without owning Half-Life 2 itself which is pretty neat.By Adam FosterPerhaps Minerva’s greatest achievement is that much of its sprawling levels play out in tight corridors and confined spaces, yet it rarely, if ever, feels cramped or claustrophobic. And this is testament to lone creator Adam Foster who, through this wonderfully designed three-episode mod, wound up with a full-time job at Valve.Filling the boots of an unnamed hero, you’re tasked with uncovering the mysteries of the heavily Combine guarded island you’ve been held prisoner on. “Something is going on here,” suggests the mod’s blurb.
“Your goal is to uncover what that is and destroy it.” Doing so will lead you into the island’s central mine shaft and with the help of the titular Minerva – who only exists via on-screen text messaging – you’ll set about taking down whatever it is that’s keeping you trapped on the archipelago.First released in 2007, Foster launched Minerva on Steam Workshop on 2013. You’re required to already own Half-Life: Episode One to play.By mbortolinoA non-combative game before non-combative games were cool. Crafted in 2009, two years after the aforementioned Minerva, R&D was often uttered in the same breath as Adam Foster’s work by way of its originality and ambition. Minus guns, besides the Gravity Gun, Gordon Freeman must here rely on his wits as you guide him through a series of tricky, often mind-building and sometimes infuriating puzzles. Occasionally, you’ll face the odd baddie who wants nothing more than to see you dead, but only by leveraging your surrounds can you see them off.“You’re definitely not Edward Pistolhands,” not long after R&D’s release, before saying this:“The best comparison, oddly, is the original Half-Life – a game whose noble puzzle values its sequel largely abandoned in favour of super-atmospheric action. There is very much that sense of strange tricks and traps born of scientific experimentation, and your largely non-combative persona is in many ways more in keeping with the mind-over-matter character we’re often told Gordon Freeman is than the openly, incongruously murderous role he dons in Valve’s games.”Games such as the Talos Principle have since performed the idea better, but R&D was well ahead of its time some eight years ago.By CakebreadHow to explain The Stanley Parable without spoiling it? And how to explain it without sounding mad?
![Edition Edition](/uploads/1/2/4/1/124162963/842821308.jpg)
Two tough questions that I’d honestly rather you worked out for yourself because The Stanley Parable really needs to be experienced to be believed. You probably already know this mod went onto become a fully realised paid-for game – which is absolutely worth paying – however its less sophisticated, rougher-around-the-edges, and free mod version can still be played and enjoyed today.Exploring themes of 9-5 culture, the illusion of choice, and the contradictions of self-fulfilment, The Stanley Parable takes you on a journey where your only friend is an omnipresent, overseeing narrator. But do you trust him?“You will make a choice that does not matter,” suggests the mod’s description.
“You will follow a story that has no end. You will play a game you cannot win it’s actually best if you don’t know anything about it before you play it.” I agree.By Black Mesa Dev TeamPut simply, Black Mesa is a mod project that started in 2012 with the aim of reimagining the original Half-Life in its sequel’s Source Engine. Having somewhat grown arms and legs since, Black Mesa now exists as a free mod which its creators the Crowbar Collective are no longer progressing, and a paid-for Early Access game, which will receive the most attention. For example, this means Xen – the otherworldly zone Gordon Freeman visits towards the end of the original game – will not feature in Black Mesa’s mod version, and the premium version plans to add ten or so hours which won’t feature for free. That said, about 85 percent of the single player game does exist in the mod and is for the most a beautiful reinterpretation of Freeman’s first outing. Perhaps the best testimonial I’ve spotted for Black Mesa is tied to generational differences: “Now I understand what people felt like in 1998,” said ModDB user HunteR4708 which is probably absolutely right, even if it makes me myself feel old.By White NoiseThere are loads of horror-inspired Half-Life 2 mods kicking around these days, however 2015’s first-person Silent Hill: Alchemilla is my favourite. While it claims to tell a “completely original story”, Alchemilla is heavily inspired by the first game and reimagines its world – particularly the titular hospital and the outside otherworld areas – to terrifying effect.Without spoiling anything, its puzzles are a little on the light side, so it’s perhaps best to avoid diving into this one expecting a revolutionary first-person modern day retelling of the 1999 debut – a la Resident Evil 7.
That said, while Alchemilla promises to entertain “fanatics of the original game”, there’s definitely enough meat on this ‘uns bones to impress series fans of all understandings.By Synergy TeamIf co-operative multiplayer is your bag, look no further than Synergy. Another long-standing mod that’s since been housed in the Steam Workshop, Synergy was born from a number of other mods – DC Co-op 2, Dev Co-op, Tim-Coop, for example – and stands to let players play through Half-Life 2’s otherwise single-player campaigns with friends.Be that Half-Life 2’s base game, Episode One and/or Two, you and your pals can take down Headcrabs, Gunships and Striders to your heart’s’ content – and Synergy now even works with other user-made mods such as the aforementioned Minerva: Metastasis.
Our list of games like Half Life has a selection of other science fiction first person shooters with great stories and unique adventures.Half Life is a game that is known most notably for the crowbar weapon and it’s less than typical hero, Gordon Freeman. The series is made up of linear first person shooters that are set in a science fiction universe. With engaging stories and strong gameplay that was ahead of its time the series has become very popular. While linear the games do encourage some exploration through hidden and side paths that often reward the player with items or interesting discoveries. The games are also known for their use of simple puzzles with environmental hazards, platforming and other elements to break up the combat experience. The final staple of the Half Life series is the lack of pre-rendered cut scenes, seamlessly linking the world together and keeping the player in character the entire game (Gordon Freeman). The games like Half Life here focus on other first person shooters with science fiction themes that will pull you in with their story and immerse you into a new world.
Each of these worlds has science fiction elements similar to the Half Life series.

In this scene, the player must bypass a dam reservoir guarded by an attack helicopter, a squad of soldiers, and a gun emplacement.Half-Life is a that requires the player to perform combat tasks and puzzle solving to advance through the game. Unlike most of its peers at the time, Half-Life used scripted sequences, such as a ramming down a door, to advance major plot points. Compared to most first-person shooters of the time, which relied on to detail their plotlines, Half-Life 's story is told mostly by means of scripted sequences (bar one short cutscene), keeping the player in control of the.
In line with this the player rarely loses the ability to control the, who never speaks and is never actually seen in the game; the player sees 'through his eyes' for the entire length of the game. Half-Life has no 'levels'; it instead divides the game into chapters, whose titles flash on the screen as the player moves through the game. Progress through the world is continuous, except for short pauses for loading. The game regularly integrates puzzles, such as navigating a maze of conveyor belts or using nearby boxes to build a small staircase to the next area the player must travel to. Some puzzles involve using the environment to kill an enemy, like turning a valve to spray hot steam at their enemies. There are few in the conventional sense, where the player defeats a superior opponent by direct confrontation.
Instead, such organisms occasionally define chapters, and the player is generally expected to use the terrain, rather than firepower, to kill the boss. Late in the game, the player receives a 'long jump module' for the, which allows the player to increase the horizontal distance and speed of jumps by crouching before jumping. The player must rely on this ability to navigate various platformer-style in toward the end of the game. For the most part the player battles through the game alone, but is occasionally assisted by non-player characters; specifically security guards and scientists who help the player; the guards will fight alongside the player, and both guards and scientists can assist in reaching new areas and impart relevant plot information. An array of alien enemies populate the game, including,. The player also faces human opponents, in particular, Hazardous Environment Combat Unit (HECU) Marines and black ops assassins.Synopsis Setting Most of the game takes place in the: a fictional scientific complex built in a remote desert region of.
The game's protagonist is, who becomes one of the survivors of an experiment that goes horribly wrong, when an unexpected 'resonance cascade'—a fictitious phenomenon—rips seams, devastating the facility. Hostile aliens from the dimension subsequently enter Black Mesa through these dimensional seams, attacking any human on sight. With the cooperation of surviving scientists and security officers, Freeman tries to escape the ruined facility, but soon discovers that he is caught between two sides: the hostile aliens and the, a special operations unit dispatched to eliminate the aliens and any surviving Black Mesa personnel—both to cover up the incident, and destroy all contamination. Throughout the game, a mysterious figure known (but not actually referred to in-game) as the ' regularly appears and seems to be monitoring Freeman's progress.
Ultimately, Freeman's goal shifts to reaching Black Mesa's mysterious 'Lambda Complex' (signified with the Greek lambda character '), where a team of survivors are rumored to have found a way to end the disaster once and for all.Plot Physicist Gordon Freeman arrives late for work at the Black Mesa Research Facility. He dons his Hazardous Environment (HEV) suit to carry out an experiment taking place in the Anomalous Materials section of the facility. When he pushes an unusual material into an anti-mass spectrometer for analysis, the spectrometer explodes, creating a 'resonance cascade' that opens a portal to another dimension:.Gordon escapes the destroyed lab. Survivors tell him that communications with the outside world have been cut and urge him to head to the surface. Gordon fights his way through Black Mesa, defending himself against hostile Xen creatures (such as Vortigaunts and parasitic headcrabs), and U.S. Marines sent to the incident. On the surface, Gordon learns that scientists from the Lambda Complex may have found a way to close the portal. Gordon travels to the other end of the facility to assist them.
Along the way, he activates a to destroy a giant tentacled creature and uses a disused railway system to reach and launch a satellite rocket. After he is captured by marines and left for dead in a garbage compactor, he escapes and makes his way to an older part of the facility, where he discovers Xen specimens collected before the resonance cascade.Overwhelmed by the aliens, the Marines pull out of Black Mesa and begin airstrikes. Scaling cliffs, navigating destroyed buildings, and traversing through underground water channels, Gordon finally arrives at the Lambda Complex, where scientists have developed teleportation technology that allows travel to Xen. The remaining staff tells Gordon that the satellite failed to reverse the effects of the resonance cascade as an immensely powerful being on the other side of the rift is keeping it open. The scientists activate the teleporter to send Gordon to Xen and stop the being. In Xen, Gordon encounters the remains of researchers before him and defeats Gonarch, the huge egg-laying headcrab. At a factory creating alien soldiers, he enters a giant portal that sends him to a vast cave. There, Gordon confronts the Nihilanth, the entity maintaining the rift, and destroys it.
Gordon is then awoken by the mysterious G-Man, who has been watching his progress and praises his performance. The G-Man explains that his 'employers' wish to employ Gordon. If he accepts, the G-Man congratulates him and places him into stasis. If he refuses, he is teleported to an area full of alien soldiers and is presumably killed.Development.
Main articles:, andTwo by outside developer Gearbox Software have been released for the PC version: (1999) and (2001). The former returns the player to Black Mesa during the events of Half-Life's storyline, but this time from the perspective of, one of the Marines in the sent to cover up evidence of the incident. It introduced several new weapons, new, both friendly and hostile and new, previously unseen areas of the facility.Blue Shift returns the player to Half-Life's Black Mesa timeline once more, this time as, one of the facility's security guards. The expansion was originally developed as a bonus mission for the canceled Dreamcast version. Blue Shift came with the, that gave the player the option to update the look of Half-Life, Opposing Force, and the new Blue Shift content.Decay was another expansion by Gearbox, released only as an extra with the PlayStation 2 version of Half-Life. The add-on featured co-operative gameplay in which two players could solve puzzles or fight against the many foes in the Half-Life universe. In 2000, a compilation pack titled Half-Life: Platinum Pack was released, including (with their respective manuals) Half-Life, Half-Life: Opposing Force. In 2002, the pack was re-released under the new titles Half-Life Platinum Collection and Half-Life: Generation.
These new iterations also included the Half-Life: Blue Shift expansion pack; though if registered on, as well as and were also included. In 2005, Half-Life 1: Anthology was released, containing Steam-only versions of the following games on a single: Half-Life, Half-Life: Opposing Force, Half-Life: Blue Shift, and Team Fortress Classic. Main article:To experience firsthand the processes mod-makers would have to go through with the new engine, Valve Half-Life (dubbed Half-Life: Source) and Counter-Strike to their new. Half-Life: Source is a straight port, lacking any new content or the Blue Shift High Definition pack. However, it does take advantage of for more realistic water effects, as well as Half-Life 2's realistic physics engine.
They also added several other features from Half-Life 2, including improved dynamic lightmaps, vertex maps, ragdolls, and a shadowmap system with cleaner, higher resolution, specular texture and normal maps, as well as utilization of the render-to-texture soft shadows found in Half-Life 2's Source engine, along with 3D replacements in place of the old 16-bit color prerendered bitmap skies. The Half-Life port possesses many of the Source engine's graphical strengths as well as control weaknesses that have been noted in the Source engine. Later updates added a option, support for OS X and Linux, an optional high-definition texture pack, among other improvements.
Half-Life: Source is available with special editions of Half-Life 2, or separately on Steam. Half-Life Deathmatch: Source, the portion of the original game, much in the same fashion as the earlier released Half-Life: Source, was released in July 2005.Half-Life: Source had been criticized for not fully utilizing many of the features of the Source engine found in Half-Life 2, as it still uses textures and models from the original game. In response to this, a third-party mod remake called was developed with Valve's approval. Black Mesa, a fan-made remake of Half-Life utilizing the Source engine, began development in 2005, and was released as a free download on September 14, 2012, lacking only the final Xen chapter.
The Xen portion was held back as the project team wanted to revamp this to try to address how the original Xen was poorly received compared to the rest of the game. The free 2007 Source SDK base is needed to run the game. Black Mesa is also distributed via Steam; the remake was among the first ten titles whose release on the platform was approved using Valve's service. A separate effort, Project Lambda, is attempting to recreate Half-Life in the, allowing the game to support more advanced graphic features. Third-party mods. Main article:Half-Life saw fervent support from independent game developers, due in no small part to support and encouragement from Valve., the level-design tool used during the game's development, was included with the game software. Printed materials accompanying the game indicated Worldcraft's eventual release as a retail product, but these plans never materialized.
Valve also released a, enabling developers to modify the game and create. Both tools were significantly updated with the release of the 1.1.0.0. Supporting tools (including texture editors, model editors, and level editors such as the multiple engine editor ) were either created or updated to work with Half-Life.The Half-Life software development kit served as the development base for many multiplayer mods, including the Valve-developed Team Fortress Classic and Deathmatch Classic (an updated version of Quake). Other mods such as Counter-Strike and ( DOD) began life as the work of independent developers (self-termed 'modders') who later received aid from Valve. Other multiplayer mods include, and.Numerous single-player mods have also been created. Notable examples include (1999, a futuristic action-adventure on board a zoological research spaceship), (2000–2001, a trilogy involving zombies), (2001, a follow-up to the original Half-Life story with improved graphics), and (2002, a side-story to the original Half-Life).In 2003, Valve's network was. Among the files included an unreleased Half-Life modification: 'Half-Life: Threewave', a canceled remake of the mod from Quake.

IF YOU DON'T SEE A MOD THAT YOU LIKE IN THE LIST, FIRST CHECK THE BOTTOM OF THE GUIDE BEFORE COMMENTING! IT MAY BE PLANNED TO BE ADDED IN TIME.First off, there seems to be a lot of confusion with newbies on what mods are for games like Half-Life, Quake, Duke3D, etc.Half-Life mods are different from your typical Skyrim mod.
Most Skyrim mods are just skins or new items added into vanilla Skyrim. Half-Life mods are typically new games with different levels, stories, characters, weapons, and so on.A mod that replaces the look of items in the game are called skins or model replacements. That means you can have skin/model replacements for mods like 'They Hunger'.Other minor mods are typical called add-ons.All of the mods on this list are for GoldSrc, the original Half-Life engine. That means you cannot use your copy of Half-Life: Source, which is on the Source engine.Good sites to find modswww.planetphillip.comhl.gamebanana.com. RELEASED: November 1, 2000DEVELOPED BY: Maverick DevelopmentsGAMEPLAY: Classic Half-Life Gameplaywww.runthinkshootlive.comIt was written in the ancient scrolls of Xian. A portal would be opened between two universes. All Xen would be drained of their lifeblood. The Xen race would be oppressed by the armies from the far side of the portal.
It was also written. A human known as “Freeman”. Set free the three sacred Telnorps. And so on and so onAbsolute Redemption starts off as a continuation of the original game. The mod begins with some impressive Gman voice acting and a cutscene.
If fact, you'll see plenty of cutscene in this mod.As for the gameplay, its your standard Half-Life gunplay. The pull of Absolute Redemption is its half-serious tone, it isn't above having a bit of dark humor. The locale are varied and interesting and the the location that stands out the most is 'Half-Park', a grisy amusement park full of working rides and games. Give it a try.I am using the Absolute Redemption HD mod in the screenshots below, it can be found. RELEASED: 2001DEVELOPED BY: DAVlevelsGAMEPLAY: Classic Half-Lifemods.davlevels.comwww.runthinkshootlive.comAzure Sheep is a single player mod for Half-Life. The player is one of the Barney guards that is on post in one of the entrances of the Black Mesa facility When the chaos starts you realize that Kate, your college, code name 'Azure Sheep' is in the complex and in big dangers.
You decide to rescue her.Prior to Blue Shift even being release, HL fans were clamoring about playing as one of the BM security guards. Without even waiting for Valve to make the first move, DAVLevels decided to make a mod that satisfied those demands. Azure Sheep was the result of that. The interesting thing about Azure Sheep is that you are paired with a partner that is similar to Alyx from HL2 before HL2 was even released. Another thing that stands out in this mod is all of the new voice acting.
A classic HL mod.The screenshots in this guide are using the Super Definition mod found. RELEASED: Mar 18, 2015DEVELOPED BY: ZoonyartsGAMEPLAY: Modified Half-LifeBrutal Half-Life is a mod inspired by Brutal Doom. If you are familiar with Brutal Doom then you already know what this means.First of all it, it ups the amount of gore in the game. You can easily blow the limbs off your enemies. Watch your enemies torn under your merciless prejudice.A couple of new weapons have been added.
The SAW from Opposing Force makes its appearance in this mod. You also get to weld the awesome power of the BFG 9000 from Doom. Other weapons have been modified. For example, the pistol has a detachable silencer and the double blast from the shotgun pushes you back a bit.Gordon also has a new attack.
He can release a punishing kick that causes certain enemies to fall back on their aces. This makes close encounters a more feasible option. Its still in very early beta at the moment. I am sure that the developer will continue to expand on this concept. I can't wait to see whats next. RELEASED: June 3, 2013DEVELOPED BY: Doc RockGAMEPLAY: Classic Half-Lifewww.runthinkshootlive.comby YannThe Challenger Deep 2 is a remake of an original Half-Life mod called www.planetphillip.com.This re-designed mod has been in development for more than 7 years and has been made by the same author. This is classic Half-Life gameplay.
You better master crouch jumping before you consider starting this. This is a mod that is mainly aimed at Half-Life veterans. The levels are huge and the mod maker is really good at catching the player off guard. The mod's length is considerable. Its very good at capturing the feeling of the original Half-Life.
It is more Half-Life gameplay, but it is very good Half-Life gameplay. If you want more Half-Life, but grow tired of the original campaign after playing it for the 100th time this mod is for you. RELEASED: 2012DEVELOPED BY: Igor KnyazevGAMEPLAY: Classic Half-LifeEver wonder how the Black Mesa Incident would be like if it were set in Russia? The story takes place in Russia at the secret plant called 'Object E7' or 'Black Star' at the same time as the unexpected consequences at Black Mesa. G-Man was planning to organize three incidents of portal opening originally. First one - at Black Mesa Complex.
Second one - at Black Star plant. The third place is unfortunately unknown. But thanks to the fact that the cascade resonator at Black Star was out of order, the planned incident didn't take place there. Object E7 is a laboratory complex researching anomalous materials and organisms.
Its academic adviser is Dr.Victor Shmurghe. He has connected directly with G-Man.The protagonist is a political prisoner who was moved from a jail to Object E7. His main purpose was to test a prototype of the new protection suit H.E.V.5000. But he could escape during usual testing by chance. This is a pretty interesting mod that adds in a lot of interesting new weapon skins for classic weapons, like the MP5/M4 turing into an AK. RELEASED: 13 June 2000DEVELOPED BY: Chris SpainGAMEPLAY: Classic Half-Lifewww.runthinkshootlive.comby YannDefeat the G-man by chasing him to his snowy mountain retreat and fighting his personal army. This mod is very explosive and full of combat. It feels like you are playing Rambo crossed with James Bond.
There are some alien enemies, but be prepared to fight a whole lotta army grunts. Its short, but still not a mini-mod. I beat it in 2 hours.
There's a lot of action with less puzzles than your typical HL mod. Its pretty good. However, it does have one thing that I absolutely depise.
Wooden crates that do not break, it has tons of those. Gunman Chronicles was initally a commerical game, however Rewolf is defunct, Valve doesn't care, and the petition to get it on Steam has failed. Gunman Chronicles is clearly abandonware.!!YOU WON'T BE TAKING MONEY OUT OF ANYBODY'S POCKETS FOR DOWNLOADING THIS!!Here is a modified installation that works like a mod for the Steam version of Half-Life. Just drop the folder into your steamapps/common/Half-Life folder and restart Steam. It doesn't have the intro FMV andits own menu splash image. You can view the original intro FMV in rewolf/media or watch a higher quality version of it online. (thanks SlappyCromwell)I ended up making a Gunman splash screen menu patch. You can download it mega.co.nz.
Just drop it into /rewolf.Gunman Chronicles is a first-person shooter that requires the player to perform combat tasks and puzzle solving to advance through the game. While gameplay is similar to Half-Life's in terms of health-and-armor systems and artificial intelligence, one major aspect of Gunman Chronicles is the ability to customize each weapon. Each weapon the player obtains has multiple alternate 'modes' for various situations. If you want to play the original WON version, you can get the files www.theisozone.com.EDIT: Added a Steam-ready version from ModDB.
RELEASED: March, 3 2012DEVELOPED BY: RichmanGAMEPLAY: Platformerwww.runthinkshootlive.comThe Hazardous-Course 2 is a spoof of the original 'Hazard-Course' from Half-Life, which resembles the first player training levels. In contrary to this, the Hazardous-Course, as it's name let's suggest, is much more dangerous.
Although it's a mod for a first person shooter, the player can only wield a weapon at the designated target range. So it plays more like an adventure. The difficulty is quite challenging, but the rewards are accordingly.
The Basic Training is peppered with hidden Secrets, which reveal tools, shortcuts, control rooms, and other features, to ease almost all challenges. There are two Secret Levels and one Bonus Level to discover, and to complete to access the final part of the Hazardous-Course.Hazardous-Course 2 is hard and I mean really hard, ' I Wanna Be the Guy hard'. With that said, Half-Life gameplay fits that style pretty well. Quickloads are fast, player movement is tight and predictable, and puzzles are nothing new in HL. I just have to warn you that this will require a lot of skill and patience from you. This may not be for everyone. They hired the best scientists, technicians and military forces worldwide, its name is Poke646.You play the role of Damien Reeves, the technical assistant of Dr. Fuller, and you don't know all these details. All you're currently worrying about is where the hell you lost your car keys when suddenly something hits your head and you slowly fade into unconciousness. Released: March 7, 2012Developed by: Radiation StudiosGameplay: Classic Half-Lifewww.runthinkshootlive.comby YannAnother outstanding mod by the Korean mapping team, Radiation Studios. This mod does a great job mimicing the classic Black Mesa architecture from Half-Life while adding their own spin on it. The maps are great to fight in and the mod will spawn new enemies when you least expect it.
A lot of people didn't like the ending, but I quite liked it. Radiation Studios knows what really matters is the journey and this mod has it in spades. If you enjoyed this mod check out Residual Point as well. RELEASED: October 6, 2007DEVELOPED BY: Radiation StudiosGAMEPLAY: Classic Half-Lifewww.runthinkshootlive.comby YannThis mod is outstanding. This is made by a Korean mapper, but don't worry you don't need to understand Korean to play this. There is basically no plot, but you won't care because the journey feels absolutely epic.
It felt like playing a new official expansion. You'll make your way through a huge range of different areas in Black Mesa and you'll find a couple of new variations on old enemies. The mod creator will keep you on your toes throughout the entire campiagn. He enjoys catching the player off guard and he even spawns new enemies if you decide to backtrack to that healthkit you saved. The best non-Total Conversion I have ever played.
I cannot recommend this mod enough. If you enjoyed this mod, check out Residual Life as well. Released: February 12, 1999Developed by: VALVeGameplay: Classic Half-Lifewww.halflifeuplink.comThe above link is actually Steamlink a coversion of Half-Life: Uplink into a Steam modby YannHalf-Life: Uplink is a demo version of Valve Software's 1998 first-person shooter computer game Half-Life, released on February 12, 1999. The Uplink chapters were cut during Half-Life's development phase, and roughly fit in prior to or during the Lambda Core chapter, or the 'Forget About Freeman!' Chapter. The maps are not bad at all and one wonders why VALVe cut them from the final game in the first place. Regardless, Uplink was distributed all over the net as a free demo and it was the first taste of Half-Life for many people. Released: Oct 8, 2002Developed by: Adam FosterGameplay: Classic Half-Lifeby YannPay attention – things are more complex than they might first appear.
Intrigue, subterfuge, and mystery predominate. An ancient machine tainted with human technology, guarded by a vicious pack of Nihilanthi aliens. There are few answers, but many questions. Will they ever be resolved? The self proclaimed prequel to, now for all of you to enjoy. This is a single map mod, but it is one of the most interesting maps I have ever played.
Valve was so impressed by Someplace Else and that they decided to hire the guy who made them. That's right, Someplace Else was made by someone who is now a Valve employee. Some mods that didn't make the list, but I should still mention.
These mods are either notable or unplayable due to bugs.SCIENTIST SLAUGHTERHOUSEPeople have been nagging me about adding Scientist Slaughterhouse to the list. Personally I never thought much of the mod, but I have to admit that it has its following. In SS you move from area to area sadistically slaughtering those egghead scientists with new (and admittingly) unique arsenal. There are a few puzzles here and there and some optional combat, but the meat of the mod is killing scientists in unique ways. Its childish, but if its your cup of tea, go for it.SWEET HALF-LIFEwww.runthinkshootlive.comSweet Half-Life is unfortunately unplayable with the Steam version of Half-Life.
There are a number of game breaking bugs that don't allow the player to proceed. I could dust off my WON version of Half- Life and finish it, but there are more mods out there that I could be playing instead. This is after all, a Steam guide in the Community Hub of the Steam version of Half-Life.SHL is however a well liked mod. Its essentially the Half-Life story with a bit of anime flare added, which I feel clashes with the original Half-Life art style. Regardless, the gameplay is pretty good and there are some really nice set pieces in there. It has a handful of new weapons that are very futuristic and 'animey'?
There is also a mysterious anime chick in an HEV suit kicking ace in the facility. Check it out, if you can.REISSUESwww.runthinkshootlive.comReissues is collaborative effort from many different mappers. A collection of unrelated mini-mods rolled into one. It starts off with one of the slickest intros I have ever seen in a HL1 mod and then tosses you into a hub world that lets you chose which adventure you wish to play.
Some of these are a hit and others are a miss. The few I would single out is the Egyptian one called 'Spectre of Ra', a Moroccan inspired mod called 'Second Wind', and one called 'Cyan'.Reissues is unfortunately unplayable due to the number of bugs that plague it, Steam and WON version alike. I did actual finish it with the Steam version, but not without constant reloads and some noclipping. You can easily sequence break a number of maps and the some of the triggers don't set off properly. Reissues is a dirty diamond. Unfortunately the dirt won't come off.If someone were to fix the bugs in this mod, it would easily belong among the proper list.HALF-LIFE: UPDATE MODNot so much a mod, but rather an update. Originally called the Half-Life: Subtitle Mod, Half-Life: Update Mod is a feature update of all three HL1 campaigns (HL1, Op4, and BS).New features include:.
Subtitles (with different color text for different entities). Chapter selection (like in HL2). HEV suit boot up sequence. Many Bug fixes. The guide is still a work-in-progress.I am still questioning whether I should add multiplayer mods as well. This list is already going to huge with the single-player mods alone.
I also want to present them somewhat professionally, so this is going to take some time.I will add more mods at my own leisure. I am only adding mods that are notable, of clear quality, and those that I simply consider special.
Sorry, but 'My First Half-Life Mod' won't make the cut.Make a comment if you have mod suggestions and direct me towards relevant imformation if it isn't on ModDB. If I haven't played it then I am going to have to play, which means it willl take some time for your suggestion to go on the list. Feel free to comment if you have suggestions on how to improve the format of this guide as well. If you like what I am doing than favorite and rate the guide.TO BE ADDED:Mods that will be added, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.Life's EndCase ClosedBlackguardHalf-Life: DecayRadixC.A.G.E.D.MIGHT BE ADDED:This is a list of mods I haven't played or still questioning.Crack-LifeBlack ThunderParanoia 2Half-Life: DreamcastHeart of Evil Napalam EditionResident evil cold bloodWantedHalf-Quake: AmenFocal PointVisitorsTimeline TrilogySmart DecoyCleaner's AdventuresPrisonThe GateHalf-ScrewedSwiss Cheese HalloweenSpecial thanks to Yann aka ParkJinSung2509 for providing video walkthroughs.
